Our Home Office Makeover
When we first moved into our home, the office was anything but inspiring. We painted the walls black, the furniture was a collection of random pieces, and the space just didn’t feel cohesive or functional. Brent’s dad had built us a practical L-shaped desk, which served us well for years, but I always dreamed of giving this room a true transformation, something custom, charming and timeless.
Fast forward seven years, and I finally found the piece that sparked the change: a beautiful solid oak cabinet that became the foundation for the custom built-in I’d been imagining. With the help of my dad, we carefully installed the cabinet along the back wall, trimming it in with moulding around the ceiling and lower area to give it character and a built-in feel. The original cabinet had decorative arches, but since our home has no arches elsewhere, I decided to remove them… and what a difference that made! Without the arches, the oak unit instantly felt larger, cleaner, and more in tune with the rest of the house.
To complete the look, we painted the cabinetry and walls in Benjamin Moore—Gloucester Sage, a rich, moody shade that gives the room depth and warmth. The colour-drenched walls pair beautifully with the oak, creating a space that feels both cozy and elevated.
For lighting, we added the Archive Chandelier in Bronze by Troy Lighting, a stunning statement piece that perfectly balances the room’s masculine yet inviting vibe.
What was once a dark, mismatched room is now a warm, functional office filled with character and personality. After years of waiting, this makeover proves that sometimes the best designs come together slowly, piece by piece and always worth the wait.
